Blog 10: Final Reflections and the Witch Trial
This semester has been filled with stimulating debates and entertaining pop culture presentations. I truly enjoyed hearing everyone’s different perspectives on topics I previously knew nothing about. I have always known about the presence of witches, but I never thought I would dive so deep into the history of the occult. I have learned so many new details and fun witchy annacdontes that I will be sure to try to incorporate into my life. I think there is a little witch in everyone, and this class has only heightened that opinion.
That brings me to the main point of this blog: the Witch Trial. I had very little expectations walking into class last Wednesday, and all I can say is wow…. Everyone delivered an amazing performance and I would like to give a special shout out to the three afflicted girls. They definitely put on a memorable performance. As for myself, I was not entirely sure how to get involved as a confessed witch, but I somehow ended up on the stand. I was definitely not expecting to be put in the hot seat, and, on top of that, I definitely had no intention of sending myself to the gallows to be hung. While my feminist outburst might have been a little ahead of its time in comparison to Salem in the 1600’s, I believe it addressed many of the points we spoke about throughout the semester. At the end of the day, it was a fun and very entertaining class. I’m not sure how future classes could ever top the performance we put on. Everyone’s contributions were extraordinary and added their own personal flare to the scene.
In the end, this class has left an remeberable mark on my academic journey, transforming a once routine schedule into a vibrant exploration of history and culture. The thought-provoking debates and lively presentations have broadened my understanding of topics I once barely knew existed, while also deepening my appreciation for the complexities of the human experience. The unforgettable Witch Trial stands out as a testament to the creativity and passion within our class. Although our group may not have won many competitions, the memories and knowledge gained far outweigh any temporary victory. This experience will stay with me long after the semester ends, as a cherished chapter in my education and personal growth.
