Blog 2: Celebrities and Witchcraft: A Glimpse into the Occult Interests of Public Figures
Celebrities have long been a source of fascination for the public, with their lives often scrutinized and discussed. In recent years, a curious trend has emerged – the public acknowledgment or speculation of celebrities dabbling in witchcraft and the occult. Here, I delve into some intriguing statements and incidents involving well known celebrities, such as Vanessa Hudgens, Gisele Bündchen, Lana Del Rey, Madonna, and Beyoncé, shedding light on their connections to the mystical world.
Vanessa Hudgens, in an April 2023 interview with Nylon, openly expressed her affinity for witchcraft. She acknowledged feeling drawn to the darkness, unknown realms, herbalism, and nature since her childhood. According to Hudgens, her awakening to witchcraft occurred during the filming of one of the Princess Switch movies. For her, being a witch involves connecting with angels, ancestors, spirit guides, and a spiritual brigade, coupled with the unique gift of "vision" to see ghosts.
Gisele Bündchen's ex-husband, Tom Brady, spilled the beans on her involvement in pregame rituals, referring to her as a "witch" in a 2019 interview. Bündchen, however, embraced the term, stating in a March 2023 Vanity Fair interview that if being a witch means loving astrology, crystals, prayer, and believing in the power of nature, then she welcomes the label.
Lana Del Rey made headlines in 2017 when she openly encouraged her fans to participate in a mass hex against Donald Trump. She justified her actions in a 2023 interview with NME, aligning her beliefs with Yoko Ono and John Lennon's idea that thoughts possess a powerful vibration. Del Rey acknowledged her active engagement in various practices, emphasizing the influence of thoughts on actions and physical outcomes.
Madonna, known for her spiritual inclinations, expressed her dismay over the 2016 U.S. election night by combining different spiritual practices, including reading from the Quran and meditating with a Native Indian smudge ceremony in 2020. Madonna's eclectic approach reflects a blending of mystical traditions in an attempt to invoke positive change.
Beyoncé, although never directly addressing accusations of practicing "extreme witchcraft" made by a former drummer in 2018, faced social media frenzy over the claims. The case was reportedly dismissed by a judge, leaving the nature of Beyoncé's spiritual practices largely unexplored.
In 2007, rumors circulated about Naomi Campbell's alleged interest in Brazil's African-based Candomble faith, centered around Orixás. However, Campbell swiftly dispelled the speculations, affirming her Protestant Church of England upbringing and clarifying her attendance at a party celebrating a friend's birthday.
In conclusion, the intertwining of celebrities and witchcraft highlights the diverse spiritual inclinations within the public eye. Whether openly embracing the term or facing accusations, these instances provide a glimpse into the occult interests of public figures, adding yet another layer of intrigue to their already captivating lives. I think this shows both the acceptance of witch practices in modern day and the somewhat shame and distain that still exists with the weight of the word “witch.”

Thanks for schooling me. I am not a part of the cult of celebrities, so I knew nothing about all of the people you mention other Beyoncé, although back in the 70s I seem to recall unpleasant accusations leveled against Madonna--her name, her sexual references. Misogyny still exists, and woman are still accused for being different.
